Residents were evacuated from a central Auckland apartment block this morning after an electric scooter batteries caught fire on the ninth floor.
A Fire and Emergency shift manager told 1News it responded to an automatic fire alarm at an apartment building on Auckland's Cook St shortly after 5.30am.
"Upon arrival, we found a smoke-logged apartment building [and] we escalated it to third alarm, but additional crews were stood down," the shift manager said.
"We currently have five fire trucks and one ladder truck in attendance," he said.
Assistant Fire commander Barry Thomas said crews found a scooter on fire on the ninth floor of the Aura Apartments.

"Crews have responded and found a scooter fire. Batteries have ignited in a scooter on the ninth floor and subsequently the sprinklers were activated."
The apartment fire was extinguished by the building sprinkler system and crews remained onsite for monitoring.
Thomas said residents have since been allowed residents to re-enter the building.
"There are no reports of injury – from what I can see. I'll refer comment on that to St John," the FENZ shift manager said.
Footage from the scene showed at least 100 people outside on the footpath shortly before 6am.
St John confirmed it was in attendance on standby, but said it did not appear any assistance would be required.
