Police have cordoned off an area near Beach Haven Wharf on Auckland's North Shore this morning after a person was found dead.

A police spokesperson said the body was located in the water by a member of the public near the wharf shortly after 7am.

"At this stage, police are treating the death as unexplained."

An area was cordoned off while police made enquiries in the nearby area.

Police said there was no immediate risk to the public and further information would be provided when available.
