Taylor Swift welcomed a surprise guest on stage as she began the final part of her European leg of the Eras tour on Thursday evening (local time), as she performed for the first time since her Vienna shows were cancelled after a foiled terror threat, the BBC has reported.

Ed Sheeran surprised fans by joining Swift on stage at Wembley Arena in London, with the pair singing a mix of two songs they had made together, Everything Has Changed and End Game.

Swift also duetted on Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud, before telling the crowd of 92,000 that he was one of her "best friends in the world."

"He works so hard, he's on tour right now and he's probably so tired but he wanted to come and play for you," she said.

Swift brought the star out during the acoustic section of the show, which is near the end of the set list. The songs in this segment are kept a secret from the crowd until the performance.

Sheeran and Swift's friendship has been widely documented since 2012, when they debuted their first duet Everything Has Changed on Swift's album Red.

It was the first time Swift has performed since the foiled terror threat on her Vienna shows, which were scheduled for last weekend.

It was also the first time Swift had been back in the UK following the stabbing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class in Southport.

At the time, she posted on Instagram that she was "completely in shock" and still taking in "the horror" of the event.

Swift said on Instagram that she was "completely in shock" and still taking in "the horror" of the event.

Swift did not mention the Southport deaths or the cancelled Vienna shows at Wembley but security was amped up, reportedly the same as "presidential levels".
