A man found lying on the road with critical injuries in Auckland's Māngere earlier this week fell from a moving car, police said.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Bader Dr and Elmdon St in Māngere around 5.55pm on Tuesday.
"Around this time, the man has reportedly fallen out of a vehicle travelling at low speed, a police spokesperson said.
"This vehicle left the scene before police were contacted."
The intersection of Bader Dr and Elmdon St was cordoned off while the serious crash unit examined the scene.
The man was taken by ambulance to Auckland Hospital where he remained in a critical but stable condition.
Police continued to make inquiries to establish what happened, including speaking to witnesses.
Anyone with relevant information was asked to contact police on 105.
