Le Journal: Day 16 from the Paris Olympics

Your morning Olympics catch-up on the action you might've missed from overnight, and a look behind the scenes at what's going on in Paris.

Flying the flag at the closing ceremony

New Zealand's supreme Olympian Lisa Carrington and gold medallist Finn Butcher will be the country's flag bearers at today's closing ceremony.

The ceremony will take place inside Stade de France this time, and rumours have been swirling about who'll be involved.

Lewis Clareburt told Breakfast last week there were whispers about Taylor Swift performing, with potential cameos from stars like Tom Cruise.

That might even top Celine Dion.

Record-equalling medal moment

Ally Wollaston not only claimed New Zealand's last medal of the Olympics – she helped the team match its record haul of medals at Tokyo three years ago.

The bronze medal in the women's omnium at the velodrome made it 20 all up for New Zealand (10 gold, seven silver, and three bronze).

The gold medal count smashes New Zealand's previous best-ever haul of eight at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Sprint queen reigns supreme

Earlier, track cyclist Ellesse Andrews made it look easy as she took home her second gold medal of these Games.

In the women's sprint, Andrews dominated her German rival Lea Friedrich, to snatch the first two races in the best-of-three contest.

The keirin champion added to the silver won at the women's team sprint.

The Chase Star's golden advice

The Chase star Paul Sinha was quick to post this message on X following Hamish Kerr's high jump success.

"Met this man on a train earlier this year," he wrote.

"I said 'If you wanna win Olympic gold, just jump higher than the others'. New Zealand you owe me one."

We put that to Kerr, who confirmed their meeting on the train.

They spoke for "about 30-40 minutes".

"He's got the receipts on this one," Kerr said.
