Your morning Olympics catch-up on the action you might've missed from overnight, and a look behind the scenes at what’s going on in Paris.
Kayak gold mining ramps up
Another day, another gold medal for Dame Lisa Carrington and Alicia Hoskin.
The pair stormed to victory in the K2 500 to make New Zealand the first nation to defend the crown (Carrington won the event with Caitlin Regal in Tokyo).
It was a totally dominant performance – the black boat was more than a boat length ahead, two seconds clear of their closest rivals.
The gold was Carrington’s seventh of her career, with the K1 race still to come this weekend.
Te Karere's Scotty Morrison’s magic touch
Does TVNZ’s Scotty Morrison have the magic touch?
The Te Karere presenter was fortunate enough to name and bless the waka Purapura Whetu that led the K4 women’s kayak team to victory yesterday.
He explained the significance of using tea ao Māori at the Olympics to reporter Harata Brown:
The boat features Māori designs on the front, representing the togetherness of the crew.
Surfing flex on the Seine
The Olympic surfing champion Kauli Vaast took a different kind of victory lap in Paris.
Vaast, who won gold on his home Tahitian waves of Teahupo’o, surfed along the river today behind a boat.
The 22-year-old Tahitian prodigy certainly put on a show, with the Eiffel Tower looming over his shoulder in the background.
Although the ripples on the water were not quite as intimidating as the monster waves he’s used to.
