The body of a 77-year-old woman reported missing in Hamilton has been found.

Police earlier sought sightings of the woman or her car from any time after the evening of Wednesday, August 7.

Her vehicle was located at a car park on Thursday night in Hamilton Gardens.

In an update on Friday evening, police said: "Her body was located near Hamilton Gardens this afternoon, and the matter has been referred to the Coroner.

"We have been in contact with next of kin and are providing them with support at this difficult time."

Police thanked the public for assistance in helping locate the woman.
