Former Southern Steel netball captain Wendy Frew has been named as the side's head coach, replacing Reinga Bloxham who is off to the Cardiff Dragons.
Frew, who represented the franchise for 16 years as a player, has a big job ahead of her. The Steel have finished bottom of the ANZ Premiership table for the past two seasons and this year recorded just one win.
The 39-year-old said coaching the Steel has always been a goal.
"I've had such an amazing career as a player and now this is the next chapter I get to write as a coach and I couldn't be more excited to see what we can achieve together as a team," she said.
Frew acknowledged it's a big step up.
"It's a bit out of my comfort zone given it's my first assignment at ANZ Premiership level but I'm ready to embrace both the challenges and the achievements ahead."
Frew will be straight to work with the recruitment period opening today. A strong roster is imperative.
"There's no denying it has been a tough few years for the Steel but a key part has always been the fight shown to the final whistle regardless of what's on the scoreboard. I'm excited to work with those coming back and the new faces recruited and can't wait to kick off the preseason to set our values, develop our culture and work hard to earn the results we deserve."
The Tactix and Stars are yet to announce their head coaches for 2025, with Marianne Delaney-Hoshek and Kiri Wills departing.
