Six people injured in two-car crash in Canterbury

Six people have been injured following a two-car crash in Canterbury this afternoon.

Police say they were called to the scene on Ashburton Staveley Rd near Symes Rd, in Ashburton, just after 3pm.

Six people were injured in the collision.

Four people – three in serious condition and one in a moderate condition – were airlifted to Christchurch Hospital, while one person was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital. One person in a moderate condition was taken to Ashburton Hospital.

Hato Hone St John told 1News they responded with two helicopters, two ambulances, one rapid response unit, one PRIME vehicle, and one manager to the scene.

Our crews assessed and treated six patients in total; three in a serious condition and one in a moderate condition airlifted to Christchurch hospital, one in a serious condition transported by road to Christchurch hospital, and one in a moderate condition transported by road to Ashburton hospital.

The road is closed while officers remain at the scene.
