Lydia Ko looking to complete medal set with third Olympics campaign

Kiwi golf superstar Lydia Ko is hoping to complete her set of Olympic medals as she tees off at the Paris 2024 Games next week.

However, the event could also bring another career milestone — Ko is just one point shy of securing a place in the Golf Hall of Fame.

The 27-year-old said it was a "huge honour" to even compete in the Olympics.

"The Olympics celebrate all the players and being an Olympian is something I deeply value."

Ko previously secured bronze in Tokyo and silver in Rio and told 1News she is aiming for the elusive gold this time around.

"The 2nd and 3rd place are just as high for me in my career as some of my wins, and if I do get to finish it and bring the gold for New Zealand, it would mean a lot."

On her approach to the tournament, Ko said if she's meant to reach the Hall of Fame, she will.

"I'm just going to enjoy my golf, I know a gold medal here will solve all of those questions.

"It would be a pretty cool way to do it."

Representing New Zealand is a source of great pride for Ko, who even has an Olympic rings tattoo on her arm as a symbol of her achievements.

"If I win gold, maybe it's time to get a new tattoo."

Sixty women will compete in Paris from Wednesday with the top 15 players in the world guaranteed a spot.
