Cyclists Niamh Fisher-Black and Kim Cadzow will be the first Kiwis in with medal chances on day nine of the Paris Olympic Games as they compete in the women's road race overnight.
Cadzow is a rising star in the world cycling scene, ranked seventh in the time trial, and Fisher-Black will make her Olympic debut on the scenic 158km course from Trocadéro to below the Eiffel Tower from midnight.
Our golfers will face a challenge for medal contention with the fourth and final round to take place overnight. First to tee off at 7.22pm will be Daniel Hillier, tied for 53rd at 5 over par, with fellow Kiwi Ryan Fox, currently tied for 23rd at 5 under par, scheduled to tee off at 9.06pm.
In sailing, Tom Saunders will look to capitalise on a strong start after a fifth place finish in the opening races of the men's dinghy event. The top 10 boats from this series go to the medal race on August 7. Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson are in fourth place after three races in the Nacra 17 mixed event. There are still nine races to go before the medal races with the top 10 qualifying.
In athletics, Lauren Bruce will be hoping to make it past the women's hammer throw qualification. Ranked 29th in the world, Bruce has a season-best of 70.59m and a personal best of 74.61m. The top 12 athletes advance to the final on August 7. Skeet shooter Chloe Tipple will continue in her qualifying rounds, so far scoring 23, 22, and 20 in the first three rounds with two to go.
Kayak cross paddlers Luuka Jones and Finn Butcher have their respective heats ahead of knockout rounds and medal races the next day.
