Kiwis sailors extend lead with day two masterclass in Marseille

Isaac McHardie and Will McKenzie delivered an impressive performance on the second day of the Olympic men's skiff (49er) competition in Marseille, further extending their lead in the standings.

Despite a delayed start and a challenging eighth-place finish in the day's first race, the Kiwis bounced back with commanding wins in the subsequent races, showcasing their powers in light-wind conditions.

McHardie and McKenzie now lead by five points, ahead of Ireland's Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove.

Their consistent performance, including three race wins out of six, positions them strongly as they approach the final qualifying rounds.

Jo Aleh and Molly Meech also showed resilience in the women's skiff (49erFX), improving to 19th overall after a tough start.

Meanwhile, windsurfing events faced interruptions due to light winds, but Kiwi Josh Armit impressed by finishing fourth in the single completed race.

In contrast, Veerle ten Have faced setbacks with crashes and variable conditions affecting her performance.

With six more qualifying races to go before Friday's double-points medal race, McHardie and McKenzie remain focused and determined to maintain their edge.

They have also received encouraging support from Olympic veterans Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.
