French rider Loana Lecomte had a horror fall in the women's mountain biking event today as she came flying of her bike on a tricky downhill section.
Lecomte raced out to an early lead on the opening lap.
However, she was soon caught by fellow French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Dutchwoman Puck Pieterse.
Lecomte was then stuck in the pack chasing the leaders and soon after took a big fall into logs on a downhill section.
She was taken away for medical attention and was unable to finish the race.
Her compatriot Ferrand-Prevot ended up winning the gold medal by a wide margin from the chasing pack.
Kiwi rider Sammie Maxwell finished in eighth place.
