1 Canada kicks football coach out of Olympics over NZ spying scandal

Head coach Bev Priestman has been removed from the Games as it emerged there may have been drone use against opponents predating the Paris Olympics.

Two other members of the coaching team have already been sent home after two incidents of drone use over New Zealand training came to light.

Football Ferns captain Katie Bowen told 1News the incident was "straight up cheating and embarrassing".

"It's just such a shock, and my heart goes out to the Canadian team as well cause we know those girls weren't involved."

2 Physical threats reported by Auckland bus drivers every three days

New data released to 1News revealed an assault or physical threat was reported every three days over May and June as incidents of abuse spiked.

In the past two months, 18 incidents classed under "physical assault" were reported to Auckland Transport (AT), with an additional 29 cases of verbal abuse.

Auckland Transport said it was "doing everything possible" to ensure drivers and passengers were kept safe.

5 Cost of living up 5.4% in past year - Stats NZ

The increase, measured by household living-costs price indexes (HLPIs), follows a 6.2% increase in the 12 months to the March 2024 quarter. It comes as inflation, measured by the consumers price index (CPI), was 3.3% in the 12 months to the June 2024 quarter.

Interest payments increased 26.7% in the 12 months to the June 2024 quarter, with Stats NZ consumer prices manager James Mitchell saying high mortgage interest payments "continue to make a significant contribution to living costs for many households". Stats NZ said other contributors to increased living costs were private transport supplies (such as petrol), insurance and rent.

Setting up "stone" stalls on the roadside and outside supermarkets has seen her raise more than $1500 for Wellington Free Ambulance's new station being built in Masterton.
