One person has died and a second is in a critical condition after a house fire on the Kapiti Coast.
Police were alerted to the fire at an Ōtaki property on State Highway 1 at about 11pm on Sunday.
"One person has died and one person remains in a critical condition," a spokesperson said today.
"The scene examination has been completed and the initial report from fire investigators indicates the fire was not suspicious.
"Further enquiries will be undertaken to determine the cause of the fire, and the death will be referred to the Coroner."
