1 Reality show contestant killed and ate protected bird while filming in NZ

US competition show Race to Survive contestants Oliver Dev and Spencer 'Corry' Jones were disqualified from the show after it was revealed the latter killed and ate a protected bird while filming the show in New Zealand's wilderness.

The Department of Conservation confirmed to 1News that Jones had eaten a weka, which is protected under the Wildlife Act 1953.

Jones described killing and eating the bird as a "short-sighted" and "foolish" mistake.

2 Landlord who 'did not accept she was a landlord’ fined $14,000

Auckland landlord Rebecca Jane Allcock has been fined and deterred from future breaches after it was found she "tried to evade her responsibilities", according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

She was ordered to pay $14,700 in exemplary damages to MBIE on behalf of four tenants affected by multiple breaches of the Residential Tenancies Act, which MBIE said she only used when it suited her.
