An 18-year-old man has been charged after allegedly fleeing police at speed in Auckland last night.

An 18-year-old man has been charged after allegedly fleeing police at speed in Auckland last night.

The incident began on Quay St, a police spokesperson said this morning.

"At around 11.54pm, a police unit signalled for a driver of vehicle to stop, but they have taken off at speed," the spokesperson said.

"Police eventually stopped the vehicle on Tāmaki Drive, and the 18-year-old driver was taken into custody without further incident."

The man was charged with "various offences including dangerous driving and driving while impaired".
