A second man – a patched Head Hunter – has been arrested and charged after 22-year-old Texas Jack Doctor's death in Auckland's Mt Wellington over the weekend.
Police have revealed that Doctor was also a member of a different gang – but they don't believe the shooting was a gang conflict.
Armed police descended on the scene on Penrose Rd after "reports of a firearm being discharged outside a business" at about 10.40pm on Saturday night. Doctor was found dead in a vehicle outside a vape shop.
A 26-year-old man was arrested in the Panmure area on Tuesday evening, charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Police arrested a second man this morning.
"A man sought by police in connection to the homicide handed himself in to police at the College Hill Police Station earlier this morning," a spokesperson said in a statement.
"The 23-year-old patched member of the Head Hunters Motorcycle Gang has since been charged with the murder of Texas Jack Doctor."
The man was set to appear in Auckland District Court today.
Acting Detective Inspector Chris Allan said: "While both the offender and the victim are members of separate gangs, we want to assure the public that what has transpired related to an ongoing dispute between individual members of two families.
"Our enquiries have established this was not a gang motivated incident and we are appealing for calm in the community.
"We would like to thank every person who called us or came into a station to provide information in relation to this homicide."
Residents were told an increased police presence will remain in East Auckland over the coming days.
