Parts of the country are in for periods of rain this weekend, bringing a wet end to the school holidays.
In Auckland, MetService was forecasting periods of rain on Friday, and rain with possible heavy falls on Saturday.
This was set to ease to isolated showers and fine breaks by the afternoon. Southeasterlies were forecast, turning to fresh southwesterlies in the morning.
On Sunday, Auckland was set for clear skies early, with showers developing later into the day, and fresh westerlies.
In Wellington, rain was set to develop on Friday evening. On Saturday, the rain was likely to ease into isolated showers, with fine breaks by midday. Sunday was forecast to bring partly cloudy skies with showers developing.
In Christchurch, the weekend was expected to be mostly dry, albeit with cloudy skies. On Saturday, there was a chance for an "early shower", but the city was set to have fine weather before the end of the morning.
Friday would also bring rain to Hamilton, which was due to develop in the late morning. The wet weather would remain until Saturday afternoon, where the weather would remain cloudy with few showers developing through Sunday.
A similar story was forecast in Tauranga, where wet weather will develop in the morning, and clear to fine on Saturday afternoon. This is set to change to partly cloudy skies on Sunday, with showers developing.
On the whole, the South Island seemed to be in for a drier weekend, with showers scattered throughout.
