What to know ahead of second All Blacks vs England Test match

July 13, 2024
More than 48,000 fans are expected to watch the second clash between the All Blacks and England at Eden Park tonight.

The All Blacks and England are preparing to battle once again at a sold-out Eden Park following last week's first Test 16-15 victory in Dunedin.

More than 48,000 fans were expected at Saturday's match — the first clash in 10 years between the two sides at Eden Park.

The 30th anniversary of the All Blacks' last loss at the iconic venue passed last weekend, but England hope to overturn the three-decade long undefeated record.

Both teams named remarkably settled sides into the second Test, with one injury-forced change each – Finlay Christie in at halfback for the All Blacks and Fin Baxter in at prop for England. However, a late injury change on Friday afternoon is a blow for the tourists, fullback George Furbank out with a back injury and replaced by Freddie Steward.

Coach Steve Borthwick told 1News he was expecting another "intense, fast game" from the All Blacks.

"We know what a quality side they are, from last weekend, I thought it was a great test match.

"Our aim is to improve this weekend."

All Blacks' assistant coach Scott Hansen said adjustment was needed from last weekend.

"We've looked at that around when you're playing England two times in a row, the perception of where we are and the opportunities of what they would have seen."

What the fans are saying

An All Blacks fan gave his message to the England team: "Good luck, but you've got no chance."

"They're gonna keep their clean record here."

One English fan told 1News he was "pretty confident" going into tonight's Test.

"We're coming back strong this week, tonight's the night we upset them. I think there's going to be a lot of upset fans going home, but I'll be smiling."

How to get there

Auckland Transport advised that additional train and bus services would run to accommodate increased usage on the public transport network.

Bus and train travel is included in match tickets.

After the game, passengers travelling to the city or those transferring to other train lines would board from either platform at Kingsland Station. Passengers travelling westbound would board at Morningside Station.

There would also be special event buses running to Eden Park every 10 minutes after 4pm from the CBD, North Shore and Eastern Suburbs.
