One person has died and another has been seriously injured after a crash involving two trucks on State Highway 1 in Marlborough this morning.
Police were alerted to the crash at Tuamarina, between Bush and Para roads, shortly before 10am.
"Sadly, one of the drivers involved died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
The other was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
They were the sole occupants of the vehicles, police said.
"Police are providing support to the families of both drivers."
The Commercial Vehicle Investigation Team and the Serious Crash Unit were at the scene.
"The cause of the crash remains under investigation."
Police said the highway remained closed and diversions were in place.
New Zealand Transport Agency said in a post to X that delays were expected.
