1 Reserve Bank holds the Official Cash Rate at 5.5% once again

Last hiked in May 2023, the OCR is used as a tool by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to get inflation into the target range of 1-3%.

At the beginning of 2023, inflation was measured at 6.7%. Since then, it has reduced every quarter and now sits at 4%.

As inflation continues to track down toward the target range, the move to hold the OCR at its current setting was widely predicted by economists.

5 KiwiRail reveals partial culprit behind Auckland train disruptions

The state-owned enterprise gave an update at an Auckland Council meeting on the state of the network and the preparations for the opening of the City Rail Link.

A "latent fault" was found within the frequency converter of the points machine — a device that controls the movement of trains from one track onto another.

KiwiRail will "proactively" manage the failures, but the frequency converters will ultimately all need to be replaced.
