West Auckland crash: Three hurt after police vehicle collision

Three people have been hospitalised this morning after a collision involving a police car and another vehicle on a rural road in West Auckland.

Police remain at the scene of the crash on Red Hills Rd in Massey, after the collision which happened at about 10.45am.

Three people have been taken to North Shore Hospital with moderate injuries.

"A police officer and a social worker, travelling in the police vehicle, have both suffered moderate injuries. The member of the public has also suffered moderate injuries.

"The police vehicle was travelling at road speed at the time the incident occurred.

"The member of the public’s vehicle has collided with the police vehicle, and as a result both vehicles have sustained significant damage," a police spokesperson said.

The crash has blocked a section of Red Hills Rd and traffic management has been put in place between Sunnyvale Rd and Nixon Rd.

Motorists have been urged to expect delays, or if possible, to avoid the area.

"The serious crash unit will examine the scene, and an investigation will be commenced. As standard procedure, police will be notifying the Independent Police Conduct Authority of the incident."
