What we know so far:

  • Hawke's Bay and Tairāwhiti were slammed with torrential rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
  • States of emergency remain in place in Wairoa and Heretaunga today.
  • More than 400 properties in Wairoa were inundated with flooding, and schools were urged to stay closed.
  • There are no active weather warnings as of this morning, though rain and showers are forecast to continue.
  • Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell is in Wairoa and will head out alongside council to assess damage.
