1 Lauren Dickason sentenced to 18 years for murder of her three daughters
Lauren Dickason has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murdering her three young daughters in their Timaru home nearly three years ago.
She’ll be detained in a mental health hospital until the relevant medical authorities deem she can cope with a prison environment. Justice Cameron Mander did not set a minimum non-parole period.
The 43-year-old doctor, her husband Graham Dickason and their children - six-year-old Liané and two-year-old twins Karla and Maya - had just arrived in New Zealand from South Africa in September 2021 to start a new life.
They were released from managed isolation only five days before the killings.
2 Multiple state of emergencies, evacuations on East Coast
Evacuations took place in parts of Tairāwhiti and Hawke's Bay this morning after wild weather lashed the region.
A State of Emergency was declared for Heretaunga Ward in the Hastings District due to coastal inundation and a local State of Emergency declared in Wairoa.

Senior National MP Nicola Willis has clapped back at Brian Tamaki over a social media post about her following a drag king on Instagram.
In a post to X this morning, the Destiny Church leader called out Willis for following drag king Willy SmacknTush, who does family-friendly story-time events.
“I’ll follow you on Instagram too if you’ll give lipstick and boas a go," Willis replied with.
4 Three bodies found in search for missing Gisborne fishermen
Three bodies have been located on the shore at Māhia following a search and rescue operation.
Three fishermen were reported missing after failing to return from a fishing trip on Monday.
While formal identification was ongoing, police believed the bodies to be the fishermen reported missing.
5 Broncos to recognise Matariki with jersey for Warriors clash
The Brisbane Broncos will sport the Matariki logo on their jersey for this weekend’s clash against the Warriors to recognise Te Rā Aro ki a Matariki.
Chief Advisor Mātauranga Matariki, Professor Rangi Mātāmua said he’s "stoked" to see the Broncos embracing Matariki this year.
“The Broncos have a strong contingent of New Zealand players and by wearing the Matariki tohu, it shows me their club understands that embracing the Indigenous culture of their players will benefit their club culture as a whole,” Professor Mātāmua said.
