A person has been killed after being hit by a passenger train in West Auckland tonight.
Train services across the city have been suspended as a result, and road closures are in place around the Woodward Rd level crossing in Mt Albert.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 6.30pm and police are cautioning members of the public to avoid the area.
"The death will be referred to the coroner," police said.
A passenger train could be seen stopped over the level crossing at the scene of the death, surrounded by several police cars and a St John vehicle.
Services on all train lines will be cancelled for the rest of the night, according to an update from Auckland Transport.
"Due to an emergency services incident, all train services are suspended until the end of the services. Scheduled buses are accepting rail passengers to and from all stations."
Rail replacement buses will operate to Western line stations while scheduled bus route 74 will stop at Onehunga Station.
