Dozens of flights have been cancelled, returned to port of origin or diverted to an alternative location as a result of fog in Auckland over the past two days.

Air New Zealand told 1News it will have a number of "further disruptions and adjustments" to its regional network today as "we get aircraft and crew in the right places".

"We have also put on an additional service from Auckland to Nelson this morning to help those travelling to Ngā Kapa Haka Tuarua o Aotearoa.

"Customers impacted by the cancellations have been rebooked on the next available service over the coming days, or have the option to rebook themselves. Alternatively, they have the option to put their flight into credit to use at a later date.

"We’d like to thank customers for their patience and remind everyone to check their Air New Zealand app or our website for the latest information about their flights."

Eighty of its flights were affected yesterday

Auckland Airport said the fog restrictions were put in place at 4.34am today, and were lifted at 7.31am.

International flights were not affected by the fog.

Today, Auckland Airport said 12 flights were cancelled and 15 delayed.
