He's travelled more than 38 million kilometres – all thanks to one ticket purchased in 1990.

Tom Stuker frequently flew to Australia for work, which is why he decided to cash out on a $290,000 (NZ$474,000) United Airlines ticket, which believe it or not, turned out to be a complete bargain.

The ticket entitled Stuker to unlimited flights for the rest of his life. Recently, he was dubbed the world's "most travelled air passenger".

If this wasn't enough, Stuker is still entitled to frequent flyer miles and can cash them in for all sorts of rewards.

Speaking to Breakfast, Stuker said he bought the ticket due to his consulting job which required him to travel to Australia often.

It's now a country he has visited over 400 times.

"There's a third of my miles right there ... it wasn't around 10 million [miles] someone anointed me the most travelled man in the world, until I found out there was a guy in England about two million ahead of me, but now I'm about six million ahead of him."

Now doing less consulting, Stuker said he now fills in his time writing a book on his experiences, gearing up for a speaking tour, and travelling to meet the friends he made throughout his extensive travels.

"I'm writing my book in Australia ... I've got so many friends in Melbourne, it's like a second home. Hawaii is too, I'm heading there on Thursday, [I've done] over 200 times to Hawaii."

Stuker said throughout his travels he has met "hundreds" of celebrities, athletes and politicians on flights in first and business class.

"In my book that's coming out, I've got a whole chapter on celebrities ... I've had some very interesting times with celebrities."

Tom Stuker has become the most flown man in the world after buying an unlimited flight ticket in 1990 from United Airlines.

Stuker added in one flight, he was seated near to Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of the rock band Aerosmith.

"It was interesting because I had a couple of Bacardis, and these guys are both recovering and can't touch it, I probably wasn't a good influence on them," he joked.
