A repeat burglar has been caught following a string of alleged break-ins at an Auckland school over the last two weeks.

An investigation was launched after a school in the Mount Roskill area was targeted eight times in the past fortnight, Senior Sergeant Alan Rowland said.

The ninth break-in led to the arrest of a man early this morning.

"On every occasion the school premises has been locked and secured with a monitored alarm," Rowland said.

"Each time several security checks were undertaken without incident."

Rowland said that on one occasion, "the alarm monitoring company was notified of an activation into one of the buildings".

During one of the alleged break-ins, the offender was interrupted by security, while another saw the suspect allegedly perform an indecent act in front of a staff member.

Rowland said police were called to the school around 1.30am this morning following a report of a man and woman on school grounds, but were unable to locate them.

The pair were spotted by officers a short time later, and "he man was arrested without further incident", he said.

A 37-year-old man was remanded in custody and will reappear in Auckland District Court on July 1 charged with multiple counts of burglary.

He has also been charged with doing an indecent act.

"It’s always disappointing when important institutions such as schools are targeted in this way, but we hope this arrest provides some reassurance to the community that we will continue to hold offenders to account."

The investigation is ongoing.
