Former Chiefs skipper Liam Messam says the team needs to take "each moment as it comes" when his old side battles the Blues for the 2024 Super Rugby title tomorrow night.

The Chiefs secured their spot in the final with a win over the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday and will play in front of a sold-out crowd at Eden Park.

Messam has been helping the Chiefs train over the last few weeks and said the team was “feeling really good” – despite a challenging week off the pitch.

He said the death of Highlanders back Connor Garden-Bachop had seen “a bit of a different preparation” for the team.

“Wasn’t about rugby - it was about people because a lot of people were hurting at that point in time, especially in our group,” Messam said.

“But they’ve responded really well, had a great training yesterday and preparing today for our last little hit out before heading up State Highway 1.”

Chiefs midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown looks for space against the Hurricanes last weekend.

Messam helped lift the trophy the last time the Chiefs won a Super Rugby championship in 2013.

He said the squad's younger players will need to keep their composure if they want to overcome the Blues.

“It’s just about making sure you take each moment as it comes. It’s very hard to get to a Super Rugby final, let alone win one,” he said.

“So, it’s a great opportunity for these young men to leave their legacy.

“I know the boys are doing all they can to make sure this opportunity isn’t missed.”

Blues player Zarn Sullivan told Breakfast tomorrow’s game was going to be “exciting”. (Source: Breakfast)

Fullback Zarn Sullivan spoke to Breakfast from the Blues camp.

He said tomorrow’s game was going to be “exciting”.

“It will be pretty good to do it again and bring it back home,” he said.

He said the return of skipper Patrick Tuipulotu from injury would make it “a typical battle of the Bombays”.
