Moana Pasifika have re-signed Julian Savea for an extra year to stay with the club for the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.
Savea played 54 tests for the All Blacks and was part of the 2015 Rugby World Cup winning campaign.
He is currently second on Super Rugby’s all-time leading try-scorer list, scoring 62 times in his career, and was overtaken by Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara this season.
Moana Pasifika head coach Tana Umanga backed the veteran in his first season at Moana as he played the second highest number of minutes across the squad.
“Julian had a standout year for us in a relatively new position in the midfield,” said Umanga.
“I feel he’s only going to get better in this position. He was also a strong leader for us this year both on and off the field. He was able to show our young players how to be more professional in their approach to preparation and the game itself.”
Savea said he wants to try and make the 2025 Super Rugby playoffs with Moana, something they are yet to achieve in their three-years in the competition.
“What I’m looking forward to most about 2025 is getting another opportunity to make the playoffs and get better as a team," said Savea.
“Also for me personally just becoming the best 12 in the competition."
