The 13-year-old boy charged with the murder of another teen at a Dunedin bus hub last month has pleaded not guilty.
The teen, who has interim name suppression, appeared in the High Court in Dunedin by video audio link this morning.
He's denied the allegation of murdering 16-year-old Enere McLaren-Taana on May 23. McLaren-Taana, a student of Trinity Catholic College, was rushed to hospital but later died.
At the time of the incident, principal Kate Nicholson said: "It is so devastating, heartbreaking and sad to lose someone so young and full of energy and promise in such a senseless and horrific way."
In the wake of McLaren-Taana's death a multi-agency group was formed to improve safety at the bus hub, which has a history of "problematic" behaviour. The fatal stabbing also saw an increased security and police presence.
The boy was remanded in custody until July 3, with a possible trial date suggested for 2026.
