One person has died following a single-vehicle crash in Central Otago this morning.

The crash on SH8/Alexandra-Fruitlands Rd in Alexandra was reported to police at around 10.50am.

The road is closed while the serious crash unit examines the scene.

"Motorists are advised to continue taking the alternate route," a police spokesperson said.
