The world's largest celebration of indigenous Pacific Islanders is back after an eight-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.

Described as "the Olympics of the Pacific", the highly-anticipated event celebrates the best of Pacific performing arts to traditional arts.

Held every four years, FestPAC has been running since the 1970s and serves as a platform for Pacific nations to preserve and promote their cultural identity.

More than 20 countries have travelled to Hawai'i for the festival, with an 85-strong delegation representing Aotearoa, including the Kiingitanga.

The festival runs for the next week.
