The countdown is underway to a huge must-be-won $50m Lotto Powerball draw this Saturday.

It’s only the third time in NZ Lotto history that the jackpot has hit $50m.

There have been 10 must-be-won draws since Powerball began in 2001.

Lotto excitement gathered momentum this week ahead of Wednesday’s draw, which saw a Powerball jackpot of $43 million up for offer.

1News hit the streets to see what hopeful punters would do it they were the lucky winners.

Despite extremely long odds of 38.3 million to one, it was clear people were daring to dream.

Ticket buyers in Auckland and Wellington were thinking they would be sharing the proceeds if they won – either with family or by donating to charity.

Others were more circumspect, saying they would need to take time to decide what to do.

But those in ‘big ticket item’ businesses told 1News it isn’t uncommon for Lotto winners to buy expensive ‘dream purchases’ like cars and boats.

One broker at Auckland’s Westhaven Marina said quality launches were an ideal purchase for old and new boaties alike.

High-tech new boats also come with full tuition to ensure the new owners are comfortable operating their new craft.

Top-end motor cars are also a drawcard for enthusiasts looking for a special treat.

The most expensive car at Auckland’s Giltrap Prestige is a Bentley with a price of $720,000. If that’s too steep, the latest Lamborghinis on the shop floor can be picked up for a cool $500,000.

Kiwis will have to wait until Saturday’s draw to find out whether their Powerball dreams just might become reality.
