Helicopter deployed in Hawke's Bay as police monitor gang tangi

June 3, 2024

Police have deployed a helicopter to keep an eye on tangi proceedings for a "well-known gang member" in Hawke’s Bay.

In a statement this afternoon, Superintendent Jeanette Park said police were "maintaining a visible police presence" across the district, with additional staff being deployed to monitor road safety and provide "community reassurance".

From this afternoon, officers will be supported by the Eagle helicopter.

"Eagle will be assisting our ground staff with monitoring movements through the roading network over the coming days to help ensure everyone is able to travel safely on our district’s roads.”

With the long weekend also ending, Park said there would likely be a “significant” amount of traffic across Central Hawke’s Bay.

“Motorists are urged to plan ahead, as there may be delays.”

Police were asking anyone who witnessed bad behaviour on the roads to call 111 at the time, or 105 after the fact.

Police have also launched an online portal to upload photos and videos.
