A Sydney couple feel lucky to be alive after they were forced to make a "nerve-wracking" low-level landing in a light plane.
Jake Swanepoel was piloting the small Cessna when it lost power yesterday afternoon.
He managed to guide the plane to safety, gliding barely metres above house rooftops and clipping a tree on the way to Bankstown Airport.
The Cessna skimmed over two hangars before hitting the runway and grinding to a halt.
Swanepoel's partner Karin told 9News the pair didn't think they'd make it.
"It was scary... nerve-wracking," she said. "We didn't think we were going to make this landing strip here."
Police said an investigation was underway and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified.
