With just 63 days to go to the Olympic Games, Paris: En Route takes a look at the behind-the-scenes scoops, the off-piste plotlines and the stories with a certain… je ne sais quoi.
Track cyclists’ hype songs
Ever wondered what our top track cyclists are listening to on their Air Pods before taking to the velodrome?
The newly-selected cyclists revealed all to 1News Olympics reporter Jordan Oppert.
“I’ll listen to anything, from Taylor Swift to Bruce Springsteen, to Fred Again,” sprint cyclist Sam Dakin said.
Shaane Fulton preferred “a mixture of Wax Mustang, ASAP Rocky, Kanye".
"Sometimes a bit of Flume.”
But sprinter Rebecca Petch let slip that it was Rihanna’s Umbrella that had become the unofficial anthem for the team.
Whatever spins your wheels.
Love for Purple In Paris
Forget the brick-red athletics track.
Paris is going purple, and the athletes are loving it.
Meanwhile, the Archery venue at the Esplanade des Invalides could be making a late run for ‘most picturesque’ stage.
Snacks for Success
Lewis Clareburt’s steak and cheese pie revelation saw the swimmer inundated with concerned messages.
He quickly reassured viewers on Instagram that it wasn’t a daily routine.
Perhaps more appropriate for athletes is the snack bags prepared by High Performance Sport NZ.
1500 have been made for the New Zealand athletes for a post-race feed, including OSM bars, Up and Go, and more.
“The key is that when you’re over at the Olympics, you don’t mess with what they’ve eaten,” explained Oppert.
“You need a taste of home, but also what’s familiar to them. You don’t want any upset tummies with new foods.”

John Campbell was having none of it.
“I’m going to town for a steak frites! You’re in Paris, for God’s sake!”
Jordan’s French phrase of the week
Jordan will be covering the cycling in Versailles, so will have to make sure she’s got her pre-race playlist ready: “Je suis une Swifty.”
I am a Swifty.
