A four-storey building on Auckland's Queen St has been evacuated after reports of a small fire and the "smell of gas" in its basement this afternoon.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager said they received reports of a smell of gas at The Strand Arcade around 1.49pm on Thursday.
"There was also a small fire in a different area of the basement."
Ten vehicles responded, including seven fire trucks, two ladder trucks and one hazardous materials unit.
"The building has been evacuated with no reports of injury.

"Crews are now working to establish the source of the gas leak and ventilate the building."
