Two confirmed dead after rural Canterbury crash yesterday

Two people have died following a two-vehicle crash in rural Canterbury yesterday.

Police were called to the accident on Wards Rd at Kirwee, between Aylesbury and Highfield roads at 1.20pm. Both people were declared dead at the scene.

The crash happened as bad weather hit the region.

Police said this morning a third person was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination, and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.

The road reopened yesterday after the scene was cleared.
