Motorcyclist dies as police respond to three crashes within an hour

A motorcyclist has died after police were called out to three different crashes within an hour, with at least two people in a "serious condition" and roads closed or blocked.

Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash on Jones Rd in Rolleston at around 12pm on Saturday.

"The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after," a police spokesperson said.

"The Serious Crash Unit has conducted a scene examination, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."

Jones Rd has now reopened.

Hato Hone St John said it sent out "one ambulance, one rapid response unit, and one manager, but was not needed for transportation."

A two-vehicle crash in Norsewood, 20 kilometres northeast of Dannevirke, has left a person in a "serious condition", police said.

The incident was reported at around 11.20am.

Hato Hone St John said it was "notified of a motor vehicle incident in Norsewood" and responded with three ambulances, two helicopters, one rapid response unit, and one manager to the scene.

SH2, near Edgeley Rd is closed, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport said on social media platform X.

Emergency services also responded to a crash in Tasman this morning.

Police and St John were first alerted to the Queen Charlotte Dr crash at 11.25am, which has left one person in a "moderate to serious condition".

St John said it responded with "one helicopter, one ambulance, and one manager to the scene".

There are no roadblocks or closures associated with this crash.

It comes after a person died during a crash on SH3, Turakina, this morning.
