A motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle crash near Matamata this afternoon.
Police said the crash between a motorbike and a vehicle occurred on Te Poi Rd, near the intersection with State Highway 29, around 1.20pm on Friday.
"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the motorbike rider passed away at the scene a short time later," a spokesperson said.
Te Poi Road remained closed and the Serious Crash Unit was in attendance.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said the service received a call to assist ambulances at around 1.17pm.
"We have two fire trucks in attendance."
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said it was notified at 12.56pm of the crash and responded with one ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and a helicopter.
