A popular nail and staple gun has been recalled over concerns a safety device failure could cause it to fire unintentionally.
The Ryobi nailer is designed with a mechanical interlock feature that prevents accidental firing.
However, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has recalled the tool over fears the safety device could "bind in a compressed position, allowing the nail to be discharged by activating the trigger alone rather than the intended two step activation process, posing a risk of potential laceration".
The nail gun, Ryobi's model RA-NBS1832 Airwave 2-in-21 Brad Nailer/Stapler, was sold from Bunnings stores.
Products affected by the safety device failure display a date code on the side of the nail magazine ranging from Week (W) 43 and Year (Y) 2021 to Week (W) 9 and Year (Y) 2024.
Consumers should stop using the product immediately, the Ministry said.
"When possible, return the product to a Bunnings store to obtain a full refund of the purchase price paid for the product, and please contact the RYOBI customer service team on 0800 279 624 or email recall@ryobi.co.nz to advise RYOBI that you have purchased this product."
