1 Sam Cane steps down as All Blacks captain, says his future is in Japan
All Blacks captain Sam Cane has stated this year will be his last with the national team.
This means he will not serve out the final year on his New Zealand Rugby contract, which was set for 2025. Instead, the 32-year-old has his eyes on a new team in Japan.
Cane has played 95 tests for the All Blacks, serving as captain during 27.
2 Parents of person injured in fatal house fire distraught at tragedy
Family members of a person injured in a fatal house fire in Auckland have gathered outside the property in Auckland's Hillpark.
Two people lost their lives, while a third was seriously hurt and taken to Middlemore Hospital.
Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene at Freshney Place, near Manurewa, at around 7am.
3 Another bank trims some mortgage, deposit rates
Kiwibank has become the latest bank to trim some of its mortgage and deposit rates.
As of today, special rates and standard rates for six-month and one-year fixed home loans have been cut.
Last week, ASB trimmed some of its mortgage rates for the seventh time this year.
4 Arrests after 30kg of kava allegedly stolen from Tongan church in Auckland
Two men have been arrested after a large amount of kava was allegedly stolen from a Tongan church in Auckland.
According to police, The United Church of Tonga was broken into overnight on March 13.
Several items were taken, including a number of guitars, speakers and more than 30kg of kava — a weight equivalent to six bowling balls.
5 Aimee Fisher beats Lisa Carrington in world record win
Aimee Fisher is now the world's fastest paddler in history in the women's K1 500 metres.
She has beaten Dame Lisa Carrington at the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Hungary's Szeged in world record time.
Fisher clocked 1:46.19, beating the previous world record by 0.27 of a second, set by Belarusian Volha Khudzenka in 2019. She needed every bit of her talent to beat main rival and compatriot, 15-time world champion Dame Lisa.

In April, TVNZ confirmed Fair Go — alongside Sunday, and its Midday and Tonight news bulletins — would be axed due to a slump in advertising revenue.

Sophie Sabri is a music therapist working with people who have intellectual disabilities and is the country's latest Good Sort.
The group Sabri helps are called the Rocking Rainbows and are based in Wellington.
She told 1News: "It gives a voice to those who find it challenging to communicate."
