A Scottish husband — who once found viral fame over a dress bought for his wedding —has admitted to strangling his wife as part of a guilty plea in court.
The 2015 social media post, which was said to have "broken the internet" at the time it went viral, centred on whether a dress pictured in a photo was white and gold, or blue and black.
The blue and black dress had been worn by the mother-of-the-bride at the wedding.
The husband, Keir Johnston, pleaded guilty to endangering his wife's life at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday, the BBC reported. Johnston and his wife, Grace, were subject to brief celebrity status when a photo of the dress was posted on Facebook.
At the time, the newlyweds received a torrent of interview requests and appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show where they were gifted a trip to Grenada and $10,000.
In March 2022, Keir Johnston was alleged to have pinned his wife to the ground, strangling her, and later brandished a knife while at their home on a small Scottish island.
Judge Lady Drummond denied the man bail after his guilty plea.
“You repeatedly strangled her, injured her and put her life in danger in what must have been absolutely terrifying circumstances for her," she said, according to the Guardian.
"I am afraid, Mr Johnston, that your status has now changed, you have been convicted of a very serious crime and you will be remanded meantime."
Keir Johnston was ordered to remain in custody until sentencing in June.
