The 16-year-old who was killed in a fire at the Burnham Military Camp on Wednesday has been named by police.

She was Elizabeth Marvin from Selwyn, also known as Lizzy.

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time,” Detective Sergeant Brent Menzies said.

Police also confirmed today that the fire “is not suspicious”.

“However, police will continue to make inquiries on behalf of the coroner.”

Three other people were injured in the blaze and a Givealittle page has been set up for Marvin's family.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a property on Toanui St shortly after 2am on Wednesday.

Burnham Camp Commandant Major Julie Richardson confirmed four houses within the complex and their occupants had been affected.

"Our thoughts are with the whānau who have lost a family member and all of those impacted by today's fire," she said.

This morning, Defence Minister Judith Collins shared her condolences with Marvin’s family.

"I just want to acknowledge the terrible tragedy that occurred here early on Wednesday morning, and I think we all feel very deeply for the family and the 16-year-old girl who has died and for all of those affected.

"I want to thank Defence very much for wrapping around all of those involved, as is our way in the Defence Force," Collins said.
