The search for a fisherman missing after having a medical event off the coast of Raglan two weeks ago has been paused.

At 8.23am on April 23, the man was alone in a boat when he reported via Maritime Radio that he was safely across the Raglan bar and was heading out 40 metres to fish, Inspector Will Loughrin said today.

Nearly two hours later, at 10.15am, he said over the radio that he was having a medical event and had activated his emergency locator beacon.

His 6m boat was found anchored by the Coastguard and brought back to shore, but the man was nowhere to be found.

Police, the national police dive squad, the New Zealand Navy, the Coastguard and a fixed-wing aircraft took part in searches of the coastline from Port Waikato to south of Raglan over the weekend.

"Unfortunately the man has not been located, and this search phase has now been paused pending any information that may lead to an area of interest for further searching," Loughrin said.

"An investigation is ongoing, the matter has been reported to the coroner and police remain in contact with family."

Anyone who was out boating or fishing in the Raglan area on the morning of April 23 has been asked to contact police.
