Man arrested, $50k of stolen jewellery recovered in Motueka

A man has been arrested and $50,000 worth of jewellery recovered following a burglary in Motueka yesterday.

Detective Constable Kelvin Heiford said police were alerted to the burglary on High St just before 4am on Tuesday morning.

A ute had allegedly pulled up outside the store and drove away a short time later.

The vehicle was eventually found on fire at 5.45am at the intersection of Whakarewa and Queen Victoria streets.

A 32-year-old man was taken into custody and has been charged with burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

He was due to appear in the Nelson District Court this morning.
