Crusaders fan Prime Minister Christopher Luxon appears to be keeping the faith after a "disappointing run so far" for the team.

He made the comments in a more light-hearted moment at the Beehive this afternoon, after announcing the Government's reintroduction of Three Strikes legislation alongside Associate Justice Minister Nicole McKee.

Despite winning last year's Super Rugby competition, the Canterbury Crusaders — the prime minister's team — have lost all but one of the eight games in the season so far. On Saturday, the team faced a thorough drubbing from Australian team the Western Force, the final score 37 to 15.

Asked what advice he would give to the floundering team, Luxon said it had to "keep the faith".

Luxon will hope celebratory scenes like this return for the Crusaders.

"It's not over 'til it's over. Yes, it's been a disappointing run so far but we're just warming up. Trust us, we'll get there to the playoffs. We'll win nice or we win ugly but we win is the story of the Crusaders, and that will continue, I'm sure."

Asked if the Crusaders needed to be more "outcomes driven" — a reference to Luxon's own parlance around the Government's objectives — Luxon said "don't you worry, they're going to get there", and had his own tongue-in-cheek reference.

"They'll be focused on delivery and results."

The Crusaders will face the Melbourne Rebels this Friday.
