1. Animal believed involved in deaths of retired couple at rural Auckland property
An animal is believed to be involved in the deaths of two people found in a paddock at a rural West Auckland property this morning.
Police said they were called to Anzac Valley Rd in Waitākere around 7.30am and are treating the deaths as "unexplained".
A family spokesperson at the scene told 1News the couple were "good people" who had lived at the property for eight years.

Educators are hitting back at the Government's plan to slash jobs in the sector's governing body — saying no good will come from cutting 550 full-time roles.
Kate Gainsford from the Secondary Principals' Council said it would be a "tumultuous time" for education leaders and the impact is "pretty much entirely negative".
3. Police handling of murdered woman's stalking complaints 'inadequate'
The police watchdog has called the police's handling of multiple complaints from AUT law student Farzana Yaqubi about a stalker prior to her murder "inadequate".
Yaqubi contacted the police on numerous occasions about a man harassing her, including a screenshot of a message where he threatened to throw acid on her face.

Breakfast presenter Daniel Faitaua has given his take on whether it's ever acceptable to tell off someone else's child.
Faitaua's views didn't find agreement with all viewers — with some saying he was a bit of "dinosaur".
5. Hugh Grant accepts 'enormous' settlement from UK tabloid for snooping
British actor Hugh Grant has "reluctantly" accepted "an enormous sum of money" to settle a lawsuit with The Sun tabloid.
Grant accused the tabloid of unlawfully tapping his phone, bugging his car and breaking into his home to snoop on him.
The 63-year-old who has previously settled a case against Murdoch's News of the World for hacking his phone, said he would not go away quietly.
